Computational design is a post-disciplinary pursuit that operates at the intersection of science, engineering, architecture, and design. 
What new strategies, tools, methods, and workfl ows for conceptualising, generating and producing the built environment do and can computational designers use?
Do new opportunities to enhance design agency and realise more sustainable and resilient built environment design outcomes exist when thinking through technology?
How can the industry overcome technical, economic, social, cultural, and regulatory barriers to implement new systems and processes?


Computational Design: From Promise to Practice argues that to realise the full potential of computational design necessitates an approach that brings theory andresearch inquiry into closer dialogue with the realities and conditions of the design, delivery, and production of the built and urban environment as well as its livedexperiences. This book documents an action-research approach that underpins the Computational Design Education and Research program at the University of New South Wales, Australia and that simultaneously combines theory and practice, researchers and industry practioners, and action and refl ection. The innovative range of theoretical positions and projects presented here demonstrate how a synergistic approach to transforming real-world industry challenges into academic research inquiries and learning opportunities can in-turn positively transform the AEC industry and 21st century cities.

Τα δοκίμια αυτού του βιβλίου ακολούθησαν, και σε κάποιο βαθμό συμπλήρωσαν, την προγενέστερη μελέτη για "Το Αρχιτεκτονικό Ανοίκειο" που είχε εκδοθεί οκτώ χρόνια νωρίτερα. Κοινή αφετηρία και των δύο ήταν η εμφανής πολιτιστική επίδραση της ανάδυσης της ψυχανάλυσης ως μέσο αντιμετώπισης της μοντέρνας αποξένωσης, ξεκινώντας από τα τέλη του 20ου αιώνα με τον Freud και καταλήγοντας στην επαναδιατύπωση των αρχών της από τον Lacan κατά την δεκαετία του 1960. Ωστόσο, ενώ η θεωρία του ανοίκειου αφορούσε ειδικότερα τον εσωτερικό της χώρο, οι θεωρήσεις της παρούσας συλλογής αναφέρονται στις αστικές επιπλοκές της ψυχανάλυσης, τις διάφορες «φοβίες» που συνδέθηκαν αρχικά με την ταραχώδη εμπειρία της νέας μητρόπολης, τους ανοιχτούς της χώρους και τους εσωτερικούς της περιορισμούς.

Οι "Χωρικές Στρεβλώσεις" ξεκινούν με μια ανίχνευση των εννοιών της αγοραφοβίας και της κλειστοφοβίας παράλληλα με την ανάδυση του δυναμικού χώρου στην αρχιτεκτονική σκέψη. Ακολουθεί μια σειρά αναλύσεων αρχιτεκτονικών και καλλιτεχνικών έργων, σε διάφορα εικαστικά και πλαστικά μέσα, για τα οποία υπήρχε φαινομενικά η ανάγκη μιας νέας ερμηνείας εκτός του συνηθισμένου αναλυτικού πλαισίου της ιστορίας της τέχνης. Τα έργα αυτά δεν επιλέχθηκαν ως τα πλέον αντιπροσωπευτικά αντικείμενα της παγκόσμιας σταρ-αρχιτεκτονικής. Αντίθετα, επικεντρώθηκα στο έργο καλλιτεχνών και αρχιτεκτόνων που διαπραγματεύτηκαν τη φύση του μοντέρνου δημόσιου χώρου.

The Cypriot City Paradigm; urbanity issues in design and planning - NEW PUBLICATION

Ctrl_Space Lab Nikolas Patsavos is the co-editor, together with planner Ioannis A. Pissourios, of the new seminal publication by DOMES architectural publications and the Cyprus Architects Association on The Cypriot City Paradigm: urbanity issues in design and planning. 

Its a fully documented volume with contributions from the most prominent and epidrastic academics, practitioners and independent researchers from Cyprus and Greece. The publication comes with an unprecedented series of plans,diagrammes and original photographs by Thodoris Nikolaou, Charis Solomou and Petros Phokaides.Its design was worked out by Grid Office and Yorgos Rimenides.

The publication is bilingual, in greek and english. It has been presented to the public in two special events at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Center in Nicosia and the Benaki Museum Pireos Avenue premises in Athens. The Benaki event also included a public discussion on the second publication of the historical volume by Yiannis Aesopos and Giorgos Simaioforides on The Contemporary (Greek) City.
