A Family Residence in Thrakomakedones, Acharnae, Attica, Greece (2023-25)

The project originates from the clients’ request for single-level living and a porous relationship between interior and exterior. The residence adopts the natural slope and linearity of the plot as a generative design parameter. A longitudinal north–south axis orchestrates spatial narrative and movement. Allocating the program into successive zones—from the enclosed garage to the children’s bedrooms, the parents bedroom and entrance, and the living areathe new terrain results in four successive functional levels. Sectional articulation produces subtle spatial differentiation while maintaining ground continuity. The differentiation of interior heights according to function plays a central role in shaping spatial experience.

Distinct functional volumes are developing around a series of courtyards, forming autonomous yet interconnected zones of habitation beneath a single continuous roof. Large openings reinforce visual interpenetration, intensifying the desired continuity of inside and outside. The building has been conceived following passive house standards. Thus, the abovementioned syntactic and functional gestures also operate as environmental tools enhancing thermal comfort and natural lighting.

Greenery penetrates the interior through courtyards and the calibrated rhythm of openings, strengthening the legibility of the distinct volumes and sustaining a balanced interplay between built and open space. Walls integrate built-in joinery, while openings operate as spatial membranes. Materiality is restrained and minimal foregrounding proportions and tectonic coherence, translating a clear diagram into a unified modular architectural whole shaped by topography, climate, and everyday life.
